Each year, our school participates in the Rebecca Caudill Young Readers' Book Award program. Twenty books are nominated each year. Students across the state of Illinois are asked to read or listen to three out of the twenty books. If you've read or heard three by February, you get to vote to help choose the winner. The author is given the award at the annual Illinois Reading Convention.
These are usually great books, so if you are having a hard time deciding what to read next this would be a great list to start with. Click on the button above to see the list of nominees as well as past winners.
Welcome to the 2020-2021 School Year!
Hi! My name is Brianne Steinkamp, and I cannot wait for my sixth year at CJHS to start! Before teaching at Carlyle, I also taught at Mascoutah Middle School and Teutopolis High School. I graduated from the University of Illinois at Springfield in 2010 with my degree in English with a minor in Secondary Education. In 2014, I earned my Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Greenville College. I live in Nashville with my husband, Jon, and our two little boys, Garrett and Emmett. In my spare time, I love playing with my boys, crafting and making things from Pinterest, and hanging out with my friends and family. I currently teach 6th grade ELA and 8th grade ELA. In addition to teaching, I also coach the volleyball team. On this page, you will be able to see a weekly calendar for class, including homework assignments, as well as any links needed to complete projects. There are also links to the online book order, the online portion of the textbook, and a link to email me.
Don't hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have!
